Certainly people originating from other locations could be buried in a plot
associated with some particular place in the old country. The simplest
example would be a person from wherever, Nesvizh for example, who was
married to someone from another location. Even in a traditional cemetery
plot where the sexes were buried on different sides of the center path, they
might still both be buried in the same society plot.
And that is ignoring the basic economic driver. Some people joined
whichever burial society offered the lowest rates. Perhaps they had a
cousin there and could get in as "family" etc.

I thought I had hit paydirt when I found Jacob BLACHINSKY on a burial
list from the Nesvizh Society, Mt. Zion Cemetery, Queens, NY. The list,
put out by the Nesvizh SIG, had translations of the headstone I was
looking for. The BLACHINSKYs buried in this plot were Cohanim, as were
mine, but the Hebrew names did not quite match up. Strike One. Also, my
BLACHINSKY family came from the Vilnius area in Lithuania, whereas
Nesvizh is in Belarus, in Minsk gubernia. Strike Two. It looks like
this Jacob is probably not who I thought he was. However, before I
dismiss this lead, I'd like to make sure that only people from the
particular shtetls were buried in the corresponding plots. Is it
possible that others, from different areas, were also buried with the
Nesvizh Society members?
