I am interested in tracing back my family's roots from the town of Lubin in
what is now Ukraine. My family left there during WWI and settled in Chicago
and New York. I have heard stories that the town was destroyed by the Nazis
and nothing is left. It was a very small town near Kiev and had a population of
Jews and Ukranians, about equally split in numbers. Some of my family also came
from Shepetovka. I could never find Lubin on any maps, so it is almost a kind
of fantasy place. Does anyone know of a map which shows it? What should I do
to try and locate more information about this town and the Jews that lived there?
My mother's maiden name was SCHUCHMAN. She had one older sister Shifka and a
younger brother who died very young.
