As someone who has sent a couple of hundred corrections, I would like
to clarify how a correction is made. There was a recent post by someone
from Yad Vashem that talked about the same thing.

Yad Vashem considers itself an archive Therefore, they do not pass
judgement on the accuracy of the paperwork they receive. They make it
their business to publicize the information and leave the evaluation to
others.

Given the size of their POT collection, they realized that it would be
expensive to use people to translate the various languages. Therefore,
they chose to use a computer program to "read" the text. As impressive
as this feat is, the program makes mistakes. Realizing how useful this
information is from a genealogical view and how personal it is, they
allow people to submit corrections to the document as long as the
document or related documents supports the correction.

If the correction provided is not supported by the current
documentation, the person making the correction must provide some kind
of external documentation supporting the change. If the person doesn't
have any documentation, the person are still encouraged to submit a
*new* POT with the corrected information. A submitted POT does not need
any documentation, although Yad Vashem encourages the attachment of a
photograph.

So, in this case, since the person's death was completely erroneous, a
new POT should be submitted with the corrected death information.

I can testify about how difficult, if not impossible, it is to correct
erroneous POTs.
