A few weeks ago a cousin of mine, presented me with my great
grandfathers Polish Passport, issued in 1921. It is extremely
fragile. I would like to photocopy it or scan it to a computor
but I'm afraid that the pages will tear. Can anyone give me any
advice as to how to copy/scan, as well as how to preserve it.
Once this can be done, I will post it for translation.

I saw your question posted to Jewish Gen today. I have many family old
documents, some going as far back as the late 1880s. When I got them the
first thing I did was give them to a paper conservator. She cleaned them,
patched and repaired them and put something on them to help preserve them.
She also advised me how to store them. It wasn't an inexpensive
proposition, but it was a well worth it one!

If you have trouble locating a conservator perhaps one of the museums can
recommend one.

Good luck,
