Re: Name Clarification

Your friend should try to get copies of his ancestors arrival
records and immigration papers (if Marin had them) The US
National Archives (NARA) can send you copies of Ships Records
and Naturalization Papers, or tell you where to write for
them. If he had a Social Security number, this would be on
the Official State Death Notice, get a copy of the actual
application. Unfortunately it now costs 27.00. These papers
will often have the mothers maiden name correctly spelled out
by the applicant.

After your friend has more information to make a good ID on
the person then a descendant should write to Sicily and
request the birth record, including names and ages of the
parents and also any marginal notes on Mariano RANDAZZO.
(which would be on the records if you rent them at the LDS
Family History Center)

This is the address:

Comune di Calascibetta (EN)
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Via Conte Ruggero, 12
94010 Calascibetta (EN)
Sicilia, Italia
ITALY

Go to the webpage below and scroll down to the words:
ITALIAN FORM LETTERS - for requesting records from Italy

http://www.anzwers.org/free/italiangen/italy_tools.html

go back and forth through the examples, some are on-site,
some are off-site and work up a letter. Include a personal
check for 12 dollars and tell them if that is not enough for
them to bill you. Generally what will happen is that they
will return the personal check and tell you that it is
non-negotiable and then ask you to send Euros. Some of the
examples are from the past when Italy was using Lira and some
suggest sending International Reply Coupons but the last
request I send to Italy, earlier this year, returned the IRCs
and the check and asked for Euros.

Or you & the friend can rent the Microfilms at your local
Morman Family History Center, and look through them by going
in reverse. 1910 and backwards. This way you will easily
find all the family members that lived in that municipality.
This is what LDS shows that they have for Calascibetta

Your friend is very lucky to have this many years of Civil
Records available. What a treasure! It is much easier than
sending requests to Italy because one gets to see the entire
record and easily make other family connections to the Family
Tree.
