If those people had no living heirs and that they especially had property,
then marriages,
usually just before death, were common place, so the property remained in
the hands
of those they wanted it to, as in some cases land and property not left
to specific beneficiaries in a Will, reverted to the King or Crown.
Often left to young people, so their heirs would inherit thus there would be
a good chance that the property would continue ad in finitum without
reverting to the crown

In several of the Irish newspaper of old, I find where "old" people
married very young people. Example, women 100 who had had 8 prior
husbands married a young man in his mid 20's, in another a man 70 years
old married a girl 11 years and 1 month. Would these be typo's or for
real? I can't imagine this myself, however....
