Rob,

It is likely that she was baptised, and the record should show at least
the name of the mother and, in this case, of the godparent(s).  I had a
quick look at the annual indexes of St-Antoine de Tilly between 1806
and 1812 and couldn't see anything obvious, though.  Chaisné could be
the mother's name.  From the godfather, the mother might also be a
Boucher?

Looks like the bride was illegitimate, but that her (unnamed) mother
vouched for her.  Both's spouses' godfathers were also present, which
is unusual.

Hope this helps.

Otherwise

go to the 1836 records for St. Antoine de Tilly, page 5.5,
the marriage
record for Antoine Roy and Marie Constance.
I can see that she is a minor, but what does it say after that? It
looks like
"something" was "proven" by a certificate from Melchiore Potvin, the

of...where?
Thanks to anyone who looks!

Thanks Ray! Ok, so the next question I have is: if a person
was born illegitimate (whatever that means in Quebec or church
law), was the birth recorded anywhere? Would there be a civil
record in the St. Antoine-de-Tilly area? This woman called herself
Constance Chaine' in later records, so maybe she's the illegitimate
daughter of the Ignace Chaine' (Chaisne') who lived in the area.

Thanks again Ray. She would have to born after Feb 1818 to be a minor
in Feb 1836 when she was married so I looked in the 1818 St. Antoine-
de-Tilly
records and found right away a birth for Marie Constance, nineteenth
leaf,
birth 73b. Again I can't read the handwriting! Looks like "de parents
incommus",
godfather Basile Fortier (same guy again) and godmother Marguerite
Lambert.
Also it says something at the end about Basile Fortier signing.
