FTM help needed

A relative sent me a CD with a lot of info on it. The Archive reader let me open the file and view it, but it wouldn't let me copy the images anywhere else. Someone here (the late Bob Heiling, I /think/) helpfully opened the file and extracted the images for me.

Through a nasty series of circumstances I'd sooner not dwell on long enough to repeat (g), I've lost the images...and I can't get WIN7 to install the archive reader. The CD drive on the XP curled up its toes and died.

Any suggestions? (Please omit "ask for the images" and "get a MAC;" each has major drawbacks.)
