Hmmm. A bit more detail than I really wanted this early (for me) in the
morning .. doesn't go well with that first cup of coffee.

But, irrespective of the process used in deriving the UUIDs, it appears to
me there's a fly in the ointment: I should see the same UUID generated
for Joe Doakes on System A using Application X as on System B using App Y.
Moreover, if I purge the UUID for ol' Joe on System A and regenerate the
UUID using Application X I should reasonably expect to see the same UUID,
right? Doesn't happen. Equally, the UUID generated on a different system
for the exact same information _should_ be identical if the purpose of the
UUIDs is to uniquely and universally identify Joe Doakes. Again, doesn't
appear to happen. I'm left, then, wondering just what utility there is
for UUIDs.

Now, I'll grant that my understanding of UUIDs may be - probably is -
defective. But, it seems to me, that if the purpose of UUIDs is to assure
that the information on one system relates to the same person on another
system or systems, one should expect the UUIDs to be identical. If
they're not, then why bother?
