I have a couple dozen images -- of various formats (TIFF,
GIF, JPEG, BMP) from various sources (web, one of 4
scanners, one of 3 digital cameras). Some were cleaned up in
PAINT, others in Photoshop, others in other apps; one was
rotated in Windows image and fax viewer. A few were
e-mailed by other people.

These insert into my PAF file, and into Word, without a whimper.

The SAME image files (less 1) won't open in WP, even after
the work-around (CDRCONV) is enabled. The !Warning! box
message varies from try to try, but is generally either
"image saved with L** compression; open in original
application and resave" *or* "unable to open file."

There is NO consistency -- WP will open *some* images off
Camera A, but not others. It will open *some* off Scanner C
but not others. Then too, I've never used LZH/LHZ
compression, because it is so blasted finicky.

Useful suggestions appreciated. Google has been unhelpful,
and so was the WP tech-support site.

Thanks!

What image format(s) is WP happy with?

BMP works most everywhere in Windows but is much bigger than JPG or
GIF.

TIFF doesn't lose resolution when edited and resaved (JPG can and
often does).

IrfanView (free) can convert from almost any image format to almost
any other format.

I would suggest taking one unreadable image and using IrfanView to
save it in each format the WP recognizes, then try to open each image.
Whatever works the most reliably would be the easiest-to-use format
for all your images. I think tha IrfanView has the ability to do
batch conversion - an entire directory with one command.
