Thanks for the explanation.
So you are saying that I need an NLE? Then I assume Windows Movie Maker
is such an animal. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get the .vob
into Windows Movie Maker. I have tried (and been successful) at
converting the .vob to .avi and several other formats using the free
version of Any Video Converter. But when I import them into Windows
Movie Maker I get an error (codec not installed). I have Windows Movie
Maker set up to download the codecs automatically. This is odd because I
can view these videos in Windows Media Player just fine (it briefly
flashes a message that says it is acquiring the codec and then plays).
So what am I doing wrong?
I really think you just need better DVD playing software, that has a
capture facility, than the basic free application that it sounds like
Dell included. You get what you pay for.
