Huh? Dave's observation IS correct for technical newsgroups but
not here and not in response to the original question, which was
asking for a subjective evaluation of a specific piece of software.
But arrogant? Gimme a break!

Actually, in some fairly rare cases you are right. But generally people
DO ask the right question, and are ill-served by trying to change the

Fairly rare? Depends on the nature of the newsgroup, seems to me.
One need only follow the technical groups to see many examples of
what Dave was talking about - a good case in point is currently
"running" on comp.unix.admin: see the thread "what's wrong with
this script".

The problem here is that the local "one trick pony" confused the
issue by providing a response to a question that was NOT asked, while
Dave also confused matters by attempting to focus on the nature of
the original question and not considering that the question was
a good one FOR THIS GROUP and of its type. Helen was justifiably
peeved with Hugh, and should probably take a cudgel to Dave for
not having read her original question in the context of this group
but from a techie perspective inappropriate here.

We now bring this sub-thread close, I hope, and let Helen and those
who know something about Passage Express continue their conversation.
