Re: A question for the group...

Several people have taken you to task for your comments. Are you sure
you really want to continue this?

A poster (not me) was berated for top posting.

In the spirit of defending other people's liberties, I expressed my view
that top posting was not evil. I illustrated with those remarks about the
widespread nature of top posting in my work. I then replied to what I
thought was a request by Hugh to explain further the nature of my profession
by enlarging on the top posting practices in email in my workplace. I don't
think I top-posted in any of the messages I posted, because that doesn't
happen to be my personal practice in newsgroups, but I personally don't
object to others who choose to do it (for the reasons I outlined).

Since then, I've been seen all manner of unpleasant remarks being made about
me, about things I did not do (top posting in this newsgroup), in some cases
about things I did not say, and about my profession/qualifications
(information I provided in response to Hugh's question).

Now you all have the right to your own opinions on top posting, many of
which you have expressed. That's fine. But making personal attacks on me and
my profession and qualifications because I hold a different point of view
than you is pretty poor debating. It's called "play the man not the ball".

Also, I wonder if you are all aware of the meaning of the smiley face :-) it
means I am making a joke! Maybe making jokes needs an audience with a sense
of humour? Perhaps that was my mistake! :-)

But I do concur that maybe this thread has gone on for too long. Does anyone
even remember the "question for the group" that started it all?
