Good point Hugh, we should all make the effort to contribute, As I do
already,
and Charani I do know that it is not a business, I am not knocking
this, the fact it is a
free service, however my point was that they had upgraded of late, and
that the severs they
were using were not up to it.
On the contrary, the most recent servers added to the cluster are
functioning perfectly.
One of the failed servers is one of the originals from March 2002 (when
FreeBMD moved off the RW servers), and suffered a motherboard failure.
Shortly after it returned, it failed again with PSU problems. This server is
now back with the manufacturers for repair.
The second server that failed dates from 2004, it suffered a corrupted RAID
partition (like all our early servers it uses a software RAID) that server
is back in the land of the living.
The third failed server dates from early last year, and has suffered
premature drive failure on two disks. The disks in question are good quality
branded disks, and the premature failure of two in a single machine is a one
in a million event. New disks are on order.
