I tried to help a friend with a Paf 5 file, but ran into difficulty
birth,it refused to let me edit anything. When I clicked on, say, place of
before,it showed a _menu_ with various places of birth which had been used
toand with no indivation of how to add a new place to the list. If I tried
line, write a new place in on the pob line, as soon as I moved to another
what I had typed disappeared and was replaced by what had been there
previously.
Is there some simple thing I can click on to take care of this? Or is
something wrong with the program?
1) are you sure the program is PAF and not PAFCompanion?
2) IF it is PAF, are you sure it's not write-protected/read-only ?
Not sure about 1.
Click Help (at the top) and select About ... That will tell you what program it
is.
If it's 2, how do I get it changed?
In Windows Explorer, right-click on the file and select Properties. If there is
a check in the Read-only box then the file is read-only. Don't do anything with
that! See next step.
The floppy it is on definitely wasn't in
the write-protected position,. I did check that.
Copy the file onto your hard drive and use only that copy for attempted
modifications. Leave that floppy original untouched as a backup. If it is
read-only, then uncheck the box and click Apply.
Let us know if that was the problem.
