I have no particular views about the TV programme (which I've never
seen) and I've no idea which questions Miriam Silverman failed to answer
satisfactorily. I'd nevertheless be puzzled by any claim to "know
everybody in genealogy in the UK".

Well, perhaps I should have said "anyone of any consequence"! <vbg> Having been in
genealogy for getting on for 40 years, closely connected with the SoG for many years and a
Trustee, edited the Journal of One-Name Studies for 10 years (1998-2008), been to umpteen
conferences, had scores of articles published in the major family history magazines, read
lord-knows-how-many books on the subject and heard probably hundreds of speakers, there
aren't many I miss and not many folk I don't know in UK mainstream genealogy.

It now transpires she works for Ancestry, who are not exactly my favourite people, so I expect
she must be one of the "newer" experts! If The Alan Titchmarsh Show had wanted a "real"
expert, then I could have given them a dozen names (not including mine). Ms Silverman
simply made a few very basic comments that anyone who has been in genealogy for about
10 minutes would know, but to be fair maybe Titchmarsh didn't ask the right questions or
pursue it very strongly. His chat show is, after all, very light entertainment and not supposed
to be about anything very serious.
