Sewers?
Sewers are laid in trenches, doesn't need miners.
recommended when the ground above your downhill-flowing sewer is going
seriously uphill or there is e.g. a railway line in the way. One
building I used to frequent was beside the MetLoobilee[TM] Line and
the local area's main sewer passed under both; the building's site
plans indicated a depth of about 80-90 ft for the access shaft in the
"back garden" (which the current occupiers have very carefully
tarmaced over :-( ).
The bit I forgot was we are talking about London with Mr Bazalgette's masterpiece of underground engineering. Though I would still expect them to be called tunnelers and not miners.
