Hello, I am new to this website but very anxious to find a lost Great,
Great, Grand Uncle. Nearly four years of searching have only added
more questions. His name is/was Hidde Roelfs Van Der Bos, a 21 year
old Dutch Sailor who was found on a beach near Liverpool nearly
deceased. Hidde was taken to the Royal Infirmary to recover. In a
note he wrote to his family in Veendam, Groningen, Netherlands he
stated that the ship broke up in a very bad storm. He died 7 Mar
1877, Mt. Pleasant, Co. of Lancashire. The death certificate added
more questions, stating that the body was released to a "J. J. Van der
Gowne (Gouwe), Uncle in attendance." This guy was no blood relative.
I cannot find any other info on Hidde, but did find out about storms.
There were 2-force 10 storms; one on 2nd Feb 1877& another the 20th
Feb 1877. I have been unable to find any records of Hidde's burial&
where. I also cannot find anything about the name of the ship he had
been on. Can anyone help me out? Thank you for your time, Sincerely,
Chrissy
Perhaps try searching the Liverpool Mercury records
