Thanks John (and Eve),
I have to admit to not being very well up on 19th C union heroes!
OK - so the likleyhood, as I see it, is this:
My Joseph HONE had his birth registered in Banbury, as would be
expected for a birth in Sibford Gower. None of the records show his
name, added after his birth registration or not, to be other than
Joseph Arch HONE. The FreeBMD record of his marriage as transcribed by
BillHo
Marriages Mar 1897
Hone Joseph Archer Ampthill 3b 489 BillHo
Is in fact likely to be wrong as BillHo appears to have extrapolted
Arch and come up with Archer - there appears to be no evidence to
support this on the original page.
My plan is now to apply for both birth certs on Monday, i.e. Banbury
& Stratford. By giving both parents names I will, in theory, end up
with just one cert, that of my Joseph HONE, the other one being
rejected due to the parents not matching.
The original page showing the birth record of Joseph Archer HONE has
not trunctaed the name Archer - which leads me to believe
1. He is not my Joseph HONE
2. My Joseph HONE had the middle name Arch added after the
registration of his birth - possibly for thr reason given by John &
Eve
Will let you all know what the outcome is when the cert lands on the
mat (I hope!)
