Hi All,
Would like some help please - I have an ancestor who was a Law Clerk in
England in 1866.
Where would I look for information about the university/college he would
have attended and what was required for this occupation?
I'm not entirely sure he would have required any such higher education,
other than being able to read and write capably. I think the important
half of the job title is Clerk, not Law. As such, I suspect the role
is more of what today we would call legal secretary, of which I have
familial experience, though with an element of photocopier as well. ;)
In such a job I believe they would have written out legal documents and
also copied them, since most would have required two or more copies.
