Usually the square brackets indicate the BT version where it differs from the PR or fills a small gap. I think that empty square brackets as here indicate that neither the PR nor the BT has the name. (For those not familiar with the source, this refers to the transcripts by Harry & Jessica Taylor published by the Yorks. Arch. Soc.)

Tomorrow I should be down at the local library which has the fiches of the PRs so I'll take a look.

Although there may be a Mirfield connection as I have just got a copy
of a will for a Robert ADDIE of Kirkburton 1619.
It mentions a Robert PINCHABIE (PONSABE etc), Robert WOOD and George
TRULOVE - all these names pop up in the Mirfield registers at the
right time.......

Kirkburton/Mirfield? Kirklees C17th style!
