Hi Ron

Thank you for your advice and explanation. Much appreciated.

You refer to one of the cards relating to his silver war badge. I need to
try and 'decipher' the information on the cards but I was expecting to see
something like 'SWB' on the card with regard to him receiving the silver war
badge but, unless I'm missing it, I can't see any reference to it. Would you
mind explaining what it is on the card that indicates the silver war badge?

One good source of information is Forrest Anderson's website,
<http://www.military-researcher.com/>. Forrest was a regular in this
newsgroup until he "retired" from military history research - but his
site is still worth consulting. Forrest shows two different styles of
medal card, and your man has one of each. His card for 51026 shows no
medals, but just the issue of a badge and an entry for "Action taken:
List 0.806", which Forrest says shows the issue of a SWB. It also
indicates that at the time the badge was issued, he was associated
with the W Yorks R.

He apparently applied for the badge (it helped ward off white
feathers) on 26 Jun 1917, so this card was generated before the end of
the war.

The other card shows his war medals, which would have been issued
automagically after the end of the war.

My grandfather was invalided out in 1917, and was issued a SWB. His
medal card looks much like the card for your man for 51026.

Thanks again Ron for the advice and the link. That site looks like a good read so I'll book-mark it and read later. thanks again,
