This reminded me of a similar certificate I hold (early 1840s, St Ann
Street, Chester) of a child's death in what I am reasonable sure was a
private house (not an institution like workhouse, hospital) and the
father is named, and described as 'Inmate' as well.
Was inmate ever used in the same way as, say, 'present at the death', to
mean a fellow inhabitant of a house?

Hi

Don't forget that it is nine months after the child was conceived so the
father could have been in prison and the mother registered the birth.
