Depends what you mean by "real". Government agencies and universities
and corporations used computers *long* before this. No, I wouldn't
have wanted one at home, but there's no reason that the GRO couldn't
have used one in the 1960s.

And FWIW, 1984 is a bit late even for home use. The Apple II and the
TRS-80 were introduced in 1977, and the IBM PC in 1981.
