Well, thank you for the warning. I for one will most certainly not be joining it. But, then, I
never intended to anyway. As the great Groucho Marx said, I wouldn't want to belong to
any club that would have me as a member!
Come off it Roy, you know that I wasn't referring to you specifically.
Seriously though, in my book any genealogical resource that wishes to impose
censorship is really not worth belonging to. It goes against all the instincts and traditions
of a belief in freedom of speech and freedom of information. Moreover, it is simply
pretentious and deluded nonsense. Anyone who wants to pretend that living people must
never have anything published about them is clearly living in some sort of cloud cuckoo
land and perhaps ought to join MI5 or some other Mickey Mouse organisation.
We'll have to agree to differ on that.
There's a lot of people getting valuable help on BG, and it's a good place, especially for the timid because it is actively moderated. Dismissing the forum because you don't agree with one small aspect of the forum is a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. So long as the rules and limitations of any group are made clear before someone joins, if they still choose to join, then I can't see that said new member has any grounds for complaint.
As I understand it, the site owners don't want the hassle of comeback from people who find their personal details sitting on the BG site, but I can't speak for them. It's their site, they can make their own rules.
Like Guy, I'm no longer a member, but I wouldn't hesitate to send people to them if I thought they would benefit.
