Re: Longevity

The 'full house' thread has got me wondering. The average age at death
of my 16 great-great-grandparents was 78, with four of them making it
to 90+ (mostly farmers; must be that good, healthy outdoor life!) The
youngest was 58, but she died of complications following a broken leg.
This seemed quite high to me - but is it really? I always thought life
expectancy was so much greater these days, but apparently if we can
make it to 65, we don't then live (on average) that much longer than
in Victorian times (14 years as opposed to 10 years). So, are my
ancestors exceptional cases, or does anyone else have equally long-
lived GGgrandparents?

An observation on the age of deaths of my gr-gr grandparents is that
those who lived into their 80's lived on farms and those who died
young lived in or around London.
