He lists types of original documentary resources which are available
in archive offices or in churches in the UK. You cannot realistically
hope to do all your genealogy on the Internet! http://www.genuki.org.uk/gs/
In general terms, I agree with this sentiment. However, there is light for computer-heads.
There has always been limited access to a sort of skeleton index to entries from these registers, on the IGI (access now through www.familysearch.org -free)
There is. recently, also the option of accessing in more detail nonconformist registers which were deposited centrally in 1840 and 1858 through www.thegenealogist.co.uk, wehich has acquired the right to form a database of these. They arte the only firm whioch provides such access, and very useful it is.
Access is either through an annual subscription of £68.95 or to take a 30 day trial with 10 credits, or payasyou go with a £5 voucher .
(I have just been writing up the costs of access to various commercial providers for the Bucks Gen Soc magazine, which is why I can quote this.)
There's also http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk "The Official Non-Parochial BMDs Service
For records of birth, baptism, marriage, death and burial taken from non parish sources"
