If you are referring to the link that was sent:
http://noyes.rootsweb.ancestry.com/b60.htm#P53187
then I don't think there was a will.
This source seems to suggest that his widow Susan was administrator for an
intestate, rather than an executor for someone who had written a will. As
the probate inventory is quoted in full, it seems unlikely that a will would
have been left out.
Should you be looking for the will of his mother or of Robert? However, I'm
puzzled that there is no reference to either of them in this source - it
looks well enough organised for such a mention to be likely if their names
were known - so maybe the piece of information you are remembering is less
solid??
I see that the Atkinsons married Coffins - who I associate with being
Quakers in Nantucket. Are your Atkinsons Quaker - in which case, you could
search the nonconformist database at:
http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/
There are Robert Atkinsons in Lancashire in that database - so could be
yours.
Chris
Hey Chris, no my ancestors were Congregationalist! That also
presents its on problems.
One source, which does not really get into a lot of what I'm looking
for but does mention one aspect of it is from "Harold Clarke Durrell,
'Lizzie Daniel Rose Atkinson, M.D' in., New England Historic
Genealogical Society Journal, 1935. 47-49"
He says "The will of Thomas Atkinson mentions a brother, Robert
Atkinson, living in a parish of Halifax, Yorkshire, England." He
does not elaborate nor does he mention the fact that Thomas Atkinsons
mother was still living at the time of his death. I assume Robert
must have passed before their mother as well, or otherwise, his son--
in-law would n to have had to made the trip to wherever to settle her
estate.
Another cousin of mine has the book with the material in it. However,
she can't remember it's name and has misplaced it somewhere. Of
course, she may call me back tonight and have the info and all this
will be unnecessary. In the meantime I thought I would start looking
for myself.
Thanks for the input.
Tom Atkinson
