But scan gives clearly Stratford

Name, surname and maiden surname of mother: Mary Starling formerly Pegera.n

PEGERAM is seenin Essex

PEGRAM PEGRUM . .

Thanks, new input to search with

Q2: what is the surname of the mother.

Mrs Starling formerly Miss PEGERAM

How certain are you of that name from this scan? I can't seem to find a corresponding "image" in the remainder for this last (two?) letters. The "m" however is abundantly present.

For Q2 I tried thus far in IGI Pegerain, Pegeram, Peyerain, Peyeram to no avail. Name seems to me atypical as English surname.
when?

When as in what time frame searched, didn't specify one, expect their marriage however around 1820 or later. I do have on her: Ancestry.co.uk, England, census (Original scan), RG 9 / 1056 page 29 folio 67 (Census 1861). Born ~1801 Bobbingworth, Essex

When as in why I do think this surname is not typical English. Then I do have to admit more feeling than evidence. That part can be skipped in my statements.

it mayhave died out

Yes.
