How do you get 12 quid a throw for SP certificates?

I was wrong - it was more than that! I purchased one 1851 census extract
and one marriage certificate.

I had difficulty in ordering on-line, so phoned GROS to enquire whether
it was possible to order records by post. They explained that I could,
at a cost of 13 pounds per record. The fact that I could give the GROS
data reference numbers made no difference to the cost.

I have just looked at my cheque stubs to confirm. On 13 May 2008 I made
out a cheque to the Registrar General, GROS for 26 UKP. At that sort of
price I decided to forgo the purchase of any further certificates from them.
