James Hamilton (1811-85), the 1st Duke of Abercorn is a nexus point,
through who pass both the line of Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales,
and her sister-in-law Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
As such his is a good ancestry to study, for people seeking new
connections for the entire royal family.
One of James' ancestors was that
Rt. Rev. Sir Jonathan Trelawny (1650-1721), of Trelawny, 3rd Baronet
who we see here on Leo's excellent website, as the base of a 6
generation chart
http://www.genealogics.org/pedigree.php?personID=I00252345&tree=LEO&parentset=0&display=standard&generations=6
Notice, if you will that Sir Henry Killigrew of Hanworth and his wife
Katharine Cooke, appear in this chart twice. Katherine is a Cecil3,
being the sister of that Mildred Cooke who m William Cecil Baron
Burghley and so I'm very interested to know more about who her husband
Henry Killigrew was exactly.
The question is answered by the Visitations of Cornwall which you can
find listed on my Sources page here
http://www.countyhistorian.com/cecilweb/index.php/Sources
and which more directly is here
http://www.uk-genealogy.org.uk/england/Cornwall/visitations/index.html
Visitations of Cornwall, pg 268, "Killigrew"
(you must JUMP to page 268 once you are on this site!!)
Which tells us that
Sir Henry Killigrew of Hanworth was the fourth son of
John Killigrew of Arwennack by his wife
Elizabeth /Trewennard/ second daughter of
James /Trewennard/ of Trewennard
John /Killigrew/ of Arwennack was
heir and of full age at his father's death and was Living 1584
his parents being John /Killigrew/ "heir of his father" and
Jane aka Maud /Petit/ "co-heiress of her father"
and relict of Thomas /Trevanion/ of Carhayes
which is interesting if true, as it would give Jane aka Maud a very
tight birth range of 1442/1447
her eldest son John being "of Carhayes" 1482
We should recognize John Killigrew and Jane Petit already as they are
also the parents of Elizabeth (Killigrew) Trefry whose daughter Sybil
married John Gayer of Trenbrace, St Keverne and had a son Thomas Gayer
whose son John Gayer married Margaret Trelawny and had John Gayer,
Lord Mayor of London (in 1647). Their son John Gayer who d.s.p. 1657
married Christian Riccard "sole heiress of her parents" Sir Andrew
Riccard and his wife Katherine Somebody.
Going back to Jane aka Maud Petit, by her first husband, she was
mother to John Trevanion of Carhayes who by his wife Janet Trefry had
a son William Trevanion of Carhayes, Knt, who was Sheriff in 1502 and
1508 and who by his wife Anne Edgcombe (daughter of Sir Richard) had a
son Hugh Trevanion, Knt, Sheriff in 1543 who by his wife Elizabeth
Pollard (daughter of Sir Lewis of King's Nympton) had a son Hugh
Trevanion of Carhayes Knt, Sheriff in 1564 who by his wife Sybil
Morgan (dau of Sir Thomas) had a daughter Elizabeth Trevanion who m
Robert Carey, 1st Earl of Monmouth (d 12 Apr 1639)
This last couple are also ancestral to the royal children through
their son Thomas Carey born 1600/1602
This data extends the known royal ancestry in this section a few
generations.
