I am not a London expert but in two or three years ancestry.co.uk
and .au will be putting a lot of relevant records on line
meanwhile I will ask some friends for help

date and place of death
age and estimated date of birth
offence as recordesd in au convict records

almost certainly jewish so ask the jewishgen people for help too


Levy is a pretty big 'tribe' but very much part of the London Jewish
community at the time. At around that period one of 'my' Da Costa
Andrades was marrying a Levy. Which is a possible hint that some Levy
belonged to Bevis Marks synagogue. Having a crack at their site might
be useful. There are some good sites dealing with Sephardim, and
Rootsweb has plenty too. However a word of warning. There's a lot of
Levy and a lot of close relatives will have the same forename. The OP
will need MUCH more information to sort one from t'other. He should
start in Australia, get a complete documented tree back to Barnard,
and not forget to note names of siblings and cousins because they also
will reflect the ancestry. When he's got that lot and a reasonable
guess at Barnard's d,o.b. and parents he'll be ready to start on
London Jewry. Otherwise his problem would be in Christian terms trying
to find a John Smith in the rest of London.
