ULSAC - The Early Years
Way back in 1958 I was one of the founder members of the University of London Sub-Aqua Club.

Don Moody, a research Biochemist from Birkbeck, had been a Diving Officer for the London Branch of the British Sub-Aqua Club and a contributor to the original Diving Manual. He called for interested students and a number of us responded. I became the founder Secretary and later, ULSAC's second Diving Officer.

Originally none bar Don had any experience and we started with very little equipment, but the big plus point was the University Union's large new pool with its observation windows. Because of this we took part in ITV's early "Seeing Sport" programme on Scuba diving, live, unrecorded and in black & white, of course.

Whitsun at Durdle Door in Dorset was the main event of the year, going down in sweaters and long johns since dry suits were expensive and home made neoprene wet suits didn't come along until a couple of years later.
