Don
I can't work out how to quote a link to my original query.
However the query to which I'm looking for an answer can be found
under the topic FreeBMD and Ancestry, your comment on May 5 (2008) ,
12:15 am and my response on May 5, 12:27 pm.
To refresh your memory you quoted May 5 (2008) ,12:15 am
"Then take your own quotation of a number as a big deal showing how
useful and important is the database you helped build. It isn't even
the population of one London borough, it is less than 0.3% of the
population of the UK"
My query to you on May 5, 12:27 pm was:
"Again I'm unclear which statistics you are referring to when you
mention "It isn't even the population of one London borough, it is
less than 0.3% of the population of the UK".
This isn't borne out by the FreeBMD statistics which show it has
transcribed a total of 191,852,382 records. Some of this total is
records which have been double keyed as part of the verifiaction
process, discounting these double keyed records FreeBMD volunteers
have transcribed 146,649, 063 records. By any stretch of the
imagination this is somewhat greater than 0.3 % of the UK. Perhaps
statistics isn't your forte?"
So back to my hammering away at getting a response from you. I'm
looking for a simple answer as to what your statistics mentioned in
your comments on May 5 (2008) ,12:15 am were referring to?
I've asked the same question of you a couple of times but you have
ignored these.
Regards
Allan Raymond

Valid point you are making, but I'm not trying to flame Don I'm just
trying to get him to own up he made a genuine mistake when he quoted
some incorrect statistics a while ago.
If his statistics were not wrong then he only needs to clarify what
they referred to after which I will put my concerns to bed.
I have better things to do than hunt through past posts without a
direct reference to whatever it is that is bothering you. If you
really have a problem, then an unmunged email address is on this and
every other item I have written to this group. You can state the
matter baldly in an email. The pointless vagueness of your
non-contributions to the group will achieve nothing. As far as I am
concerned there is nothing to 'own up to'.
As and when you contribute an explicit case, with your falsification
of whatever you think I wrote, then I'll pay attention. A that point
I'll see whether your falsification stands or does not. If it does, I
move to your position. If it doesn't I'll stay where I am. Either way,
knowledge advances, and that is what I care about.
But be warned. I don't treat as authoritative anything from anybody
who chooses not to give their legal name and place of residence. I
give mine as a token that I back what I write as being true as far as
that can be ascertained at the time of writing. Those who don't
identify themselves have no backing for what they write, which make it
worthless in any -ology.
