You can reasonably expect web sites to follow the international standards.
Most problems occur because web designers are inveigled into producing sites
that are non-standard - by Microsoft promoting software that produces
non-standard sites (but suited to Microsoft's own - broken - browser).
There are problems that happen because other browsers don't 'have what it
takes' and that's understood - although the international standards require
web sites to cope with a basic standard even if they also offer more for
capable browsers. There are problems with support - but that is dealt with 'at
the other end' by those involved with RISC OS being willing to check sites and
offering support for the site developers to make the site properly compliant.
Whilst those using Microsoft products (like yourself) force others to use
non-standard material, the rest of us are far more willing to adhere to those
standards and help ensure that public resources are available to all.
Couldn't agree more. There should be a special circle of hell for web-designers producing non-portable sites right next door to that for those demanding Flash (or was that a different newsgroup?).
Same group, different thread. But even I (Win and Mac user (Linux learner)) do agree that the standard should be adhered to. But then I'm user of thunderbird, firefox, safari, mail, ...... etc. As long as as it does not contain a reference to Microsoft. Only office I still can't circumvent due to frequent usage at my work. (Excel and Powerpoint then to be more exact).
