There was a big vogue for home brewing and wine making in Britain some
years ago (1980s?). Specialist shops sprang up all over the place. The
quality of ingredients varied but it was possible to get the basic
natural ingredients. I think it died out because drink became
*relatively* cheap.
It became legal in the early 1960s and continued to be popular to the early
1980s.
