His name is William Owen
It is odd, isn't it? Why should he be the only man without a specified
regiment (apart from famlies)? At first I assumed that "private" was his
rank. Now I wonder if he was a civilian servant employed privately by one
of the officers. Is there any other evidence of him being in the army? If
he was, presumably it should be possible to get hold of his papers.
