Thanks, plus a Liverpool question

Hello
First of all thank you to those who replied to my recent post about the
contents of a death certificate in 1856; the info was very helpful.
Scondly, one of my husband's ancestors seems to have been a 'private
servant' at Birchfield Barracks in 1851. I assume he would have been a sort
of batman to one of the officers. According to the Liverpool site, the
barracks seem to have been in an area known as Lime Street and St Annes.
Can anyone enlighten me about the St Annes bit of this? And does anyone
know why a Scottish regiment would be garrisoned in Liverpool in 1851?

TIA

Liz Owen
