The first issue of our magazine (Acorn User #1 July/August 1982) included an
article on the implementation of a network of BBC micros and shows the use of
one of the machines with a graphics tablet. The Beeb (Proton = BBC A/B) was
two steps up from the hobbyist machines that had to be put together by the
user (one notoriously using glue because the user had heard that heat could
damage electronic components and so had not soldered the machine!).
Technically the Atom was also post hobbyist.
Of course the US market was different - and practical and affordable machines
arrived there much later.
