All the PC's predecessors were 'hobby' machines, for want of a better expression, albeit that VisiCalc turned the Apple II into a business machine. What I meant was that the IBM PC is considered, rightly or wrongly, Year Zero as far as the home PC is concerned.
For those in the know, the IBM PC was a late-comer. It was a sort of mini-battleship with a typical IBM design of a basic version with the need for all sorts of chargeable add-ons to get a workable machine. Eventually, IBM abandoned it because it wasn't profitable enough for them.
