Occupation question

Hi,
A relatives occupation is described in the 1841 census for Llanelly as
"Engineer H.P."
Anyone have any idea what flavour of engineer that may be?
One of his children is described as a Collier, another as an Engineer
and later on another son worked in a copperworks, so all of these
would have been within walking distance of the family home (as would a
number of tinplate works)
