If the person is new, they would, by definition have no memory of recent
publications in this Newsgroup.
Wrong. They would have spent some time reading the group before asking
questions (lurking) had they taken note of the advice given to them by
their ISP - or if they had decided to use an ISP that saves money by not
offering advice they would have been required to teach themselves the
basics.

Very few ISPs offer any advice concerning newsgroups.

Then the responsibility reverts to the individual.

As to "they would have been required to teach themselves the basics."

Required by whom?

Society. Us.
Just as I expect kids to be taught road skills before taking a bicycle onto a
public road. Whilst many don't they and their parents are responsible and the
rest of us are right to complain loudly when they don't.

What I find amazing about this is that anybody would see any advantage in
dumping on the OP AFTER the query had been efficiently (and correctly)
answered. What is this meant to achieve?

No dump on the individual; plenty of complaint about excusing that individual
because of ignorance. Ignorance is no acceptable excuse.

Don did 'dump' on the OP, I beleive he described him as having "the dopey belief that being a wanking waste of space is the way to contribute to any intellectual endeavour".

Of course, Don being intellectually superior to the rest of us can use that sort of incredibly rude language and believe that that is the way to contribute to an intellectual endeavour.
