Noke[s] abt 1900-1915). This friend said that her mother-in-law often
mentioned "Folkston" when referring to her younger years in England.
But her marriage record (Canada 1923) indicates she was born in
Wiltshire and I found some interesting entries at FreeBMD site that
would indicate she was born in Warminster and her brother born in
Amesbury; although I have not yet ordered certificates o confirm
this. The only place I can find with a similar spelling is
"Folkestone", which is way over in Kent.
Is there a place in Wiltshire that might sound like "Folkston"?
Another ill-thought-out daft question. There is a vast number of possible explanations and choosing between them is impossible without a lot more information than is given.
For a start, there is no reason at all why place of birth has to be the place where one's 'younger years' were spent.
Wrong. It was a perfectly reasonable question. The OP acknowledges that it might have been Folkestone in Kent, but it is perfectly reasonable to ask someone with local knowledge if there is anywhere in Wiltshire that sounds similar. It is neither daft nor ill thought out.
