"> Lately, at Greet, near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, aged
78,
Mr. Thomas Hale, farmer. The deceased was formerly in poor
circumstances, but a considerable sum having been left him by
some maiden ladies, his prospects underwent a change for the
better, and by his industrious and careful habits he managed
to
accumulate a large fortune, worth more than £100,000.

Check out http://eh.net/hmit/ to see how much that was worth. £8m in
terms of the RPI, or £71m in terms of present-day earnings.

Does this stupidity have to be resurrected every time there is a
mention of money? THERE IS NO COMPARISON OF LIKE WITH LIKE.

If you disagree, look at the thing in front of you called a computer,
and look up the price of that thing in Ye Olde Herefordshire Computer
Shoppe website in the year of Mr Hale's death. It'll be in the
archives somewhere.

Then maybe you'll finally realise the complete fatuousness of raising
the issue at all, and the complete phoniness of the site to which you
provided a link. It is as completely bloody pathetic and as
intellectually unsound as being asked to measure the distance to the
Moon in kilogrammes, or the age of Mr Hale at death in metres.
