New Zealand, South African, American and Canadian researchers would
love to be able to do that, but it isn't always possible.

I know Richard is very much closer but you are assuming his
circumstances allow him to "make the trip". Just because you are able
to spend part of every year in Denmark, doesn't mean everyone else is
able to do similarly.


original sources are always best


Where it's practical to use them. It isn't so for everyone: not even
for a UK resident to get to the original sources if they are at the
opposite end/side of the country or even in the next county.

in which case they better research another line
or do some extractions / transcriptions for the common good

there are many other facets to our hobby than collecting names and trying to back as far as possible

recording the memories of the living is actually more useful and important
