I think there are a lot of people in the UK as well as around the
world who are still on dial up.
A friend of mine has to use a mobile phone since he lives in a
caravan. He has to contend with a fluctuating signal as well as the
problems of dialup.
Another friend has only recently been able to have a broadband
connection despite the roads at either end of hers having been
connected for a couple of years.
I'm unexpectedly on dial-up at present because our other phone line
has gone dead. I haven't found it as painful as I expected. I'm happy
just to use a web-based email address. I used to use MailWasher but
there doesn't seem much in it either way for my purposes. The web page
is speeded up by having Adblock installed on Firefox.
