Firstly, I'd just like to thank everybody who took the time to reply to this
post. Much appreciated.
Actually the initial post was made by my Uncle who is visiting this country
from New Zealand and researching his wife's genealogical tree.
Roy, I don't know why you decided to be so vitriolic in your reply, but I
assure you that no offence was intended. Looking at my Uncle's research, the
only addititional information he could have given you was that Alfred had a
son called ALEXANDER WILLIAM HARDIE b. 16/09/1843 in India who married
CHARLOTTE ANN DAVIDSON on 26/10/1868 at Christchurch, Byculla, India and
died at Baroda, India 22/05/1916.
My Uncle doesn't know if ALFRED HARDIE was born in England or India. He
probably died in India.
Was my Uncle fishing? Was he checking if the names rang any bells with other
posters? You're darn Tootin' he was. I steered him towards this newsgroup
which I said was full of helpful and knowledgeable posters who may or may
not be able to fill in some of the blanks in his research. Sorry if I wasted
your time.

PS. All this info was taken from family details given to the India Office on
application for British passports by my Uncles in-laws. We have no
certificates.

The only reference that we have to Alfred are that he was named as the
father of Alexander HARDIE on that persons marriage certificate, and that
a
newspaper report "Bombay Gazette", 13 March 1894, refers to William Jean
Raymond ..... commander of the Baroda State Forces in the latter half of
the
eighteenth century..... whose daughter, Marie, married |Captain Hardy of
the
same forces.
Can anyone help with further information on Alfred Hardy(Hardie) or his
forebears?
