Re: Opinion Wanted, Please

Hi All

Just want to put out feelers as to whether you suspect I may be on the right track.

My maternal great-grandfather William Albert Brown was born c1884 in (I am lead to believe) Liverpool or Everton. He married Catherine Frances Chiocchi aka Chalkey at St Polycarp's, Everton 9/7/1905. Children:

Emily
Lily 11/7/1912 (my Nana)
Mary aka May 1914
Norah 1916
Catherine F 1920
Maggie
Tommy
Freddy
Albert.

William was a carter by trade, had a brother named Robert, named his father as Robert on his marriage certificate and a Robert John Brown was witness on said certificate. William was an Orangeman and apparently marched with the Black and Tans. Other than this I know nothing. Brown is a devil of a name to trace at the best of times.

But on the 1901 census I found a possible family for William at 102 Gordon St, Everton in the parish of St Polycarp's: RG 13 / 3472

Mary McDonald, widow/head, age 78, born Liverpool

William Brown, grandson, single, age 18, occupation hard to read, born Liverpool

Mary McDonald, wife, married, age 39, occupation: charring, born Liverpool

Emily McDonald, daur, single, age 17, born Liverpool

Mary McDonald, daur, single, age 14, born Liverpool

Lily McDonald, daur, single, age 10, born Liverpool

Maggie McDonald, daur, single, age 8, born Liverpool

Annie McDonald, daur, single, age 2, born Liverpool

Robert Brown, nephew, single, age 22, occupation: hard to read, born Liverpool

I'm not claiming this family as mine but I'd be interested in hearing if anyone suspects that I may be on to something here.

cheers

His occupation is "pressman at oilcake mills" so, if he was a carter a few years later, it is unlikely to be the same person.
