Hi GKM

As someone else has pointed out to you the place in the UK the older lady
in the US is looking for is probably Winwick - in the UK this will be
pronounced Winick - Just think of the US singer Diane Warwick - in the US
all the letters in her surname are pronounced - in the UK it is Warick.

As to the telephone number the older lady is trying to call - please let
us know what the format is - no need to give us all the number, but both
numbers and area codes have changed recemtly so sopmeone may be able to
help out if anything has changed.

Peter: Yes, I found that the spelling was Winwick. Thank you.

From the U.S., I have been dialing 011-44-1925-625 xxx. Is this the
correct format?

That's a Warrington number

From the U.S., the 011 is for foreign numbers. The 44 is England (or the
U.K.?) Does the rest look OK?

Yes

If dialing from the U.K., one would (I think) have to put a zero before the
1925, but not from abroad.

Yes

I get a message saying "Circuits are now busy. Try later". Can they
always be busy?

Sounds like a problem your side of the pond, the BT announcement is on the
lines of: All Lines are busy, please try later.

This lady also wrote this: xxx Sycamore Lane, Warrington, Cheshire,
England. Look OK?

Appears to be a valid address. it's actually in Great Sankey which is a
western suburb of Warrington and about 4 miles from Winwick which is north of
Warrington
