searches, I thought it's time to try the really long haul.
So, I have been trying to find my Henry Thomas Lambert family in
the 1861 census by 'Street' name. I suspect/hope, they were still
living at 307 High Street, Wapping at the time. My problem appears
to be that this particular address seems to be missing. I have
found High Street in bits and pieces, by searching Districts via
Middlesex, (Stepney), Wapping/Shadwell. District 3 is missing in
one of them and I'll bet that's the one I need. I subscribe to
Ancestry and have also tried 'Find my past' and 'FreeCen' in case
they have something Ancestry has missing.
I guess I'm hoping that my lack of 'local knowledge' is more the
problem, than missing schedules but I'm prepared for the worst.
Unfortunately, there is quite a bit of the 1861 which went missing
before the books were filmed.
Scroll down http://www.londonlist.org.uk/faq.htm to Census, click on
that and go to Page 4. Ancestry does have a complete list of all the
piece numbers missing for the whole country.
Your family may just have been mistranscribed.
If it's any consolation, some of my relatives are also "lost" in the
1861 in the same area. I guess we'll just have to find which pub
they're having a pint or six in ;))
